Description

Museum of Nature and Man

Immerse yourself in the island’s natural history with a visit to the renowned Museum of Nature and Man (MNH), Tenerife. This is a veritable temple for lovers of the Canary Islands in general and Tenerife in particular, a place where you can see the origins of the island, the history of their original inhabitants, and the dramatic fauna and flora which even now is still a feature of the island that is home to the imposing Mount Teide.

A stroll through history, starting at the beginning

Your ticket gives you admission to the permanent exhibitions of the Museum of Nature and Man in Tenerife. You will take an absorbing journey into the past, focusing on various aspects of this unique archipelago, including its origins 20 million years ago. Which was the first island? Where did the earliest inhabitants come from? Here you’ll find the answers to these questions and many others!

Aboriginal mummies, fauna and flora, unique in the world

Two thousand five hundred years ago, the first settlers arrived on the Canary Islands. What were they like? What did they do in their daily lives? What marine fauna did they find in the Atlantic? And what did they find on land? What kinds of animals were there? What species were there? Giant squid, for example, are a common feature in the area. Do you know what they are? With these exact replicas of the fauna, you will have the full picture. And the same with the flora; did you know that there exist many endemic ecosystems? After all this, there will be nothing that you won’t know!

The origins of volcanic activity

How is a volcano born? There’s no way you would understand it without the help of these exhibitions. Mount Teide is a natural phenomenon that is very rare in the world, and you will have images, videos and even an audioguide to help you understand why. Tenerife would not be the island it is without its volcano, so don’t leave without finding out all about this geographical wonder.
