- In accordance with current regulations, persons with any physical disability or motor impairment are not permitted to make the ascent by cable car, because of the potential risks if the vehicle has to be evacuated.

- Pets are not allowed.
Guided Tour to Pico Viejo restrictions
This activity is not suitable for people with mobility problems and children under 5.
Anyone wearing open footwear (sandals) will not be allowed to join. Due to the uneven nature of the path, suitable footwear is essential.
You must show up at the Cable Car boarding area with your ticket, either printed or on your mobile phone, 20 minutes prior to the time slot specified on your ticket, although we recommend that you show up at the premises of the Cable Car prior to the boarding time, in order to have enough time to park, etc. If you arrive late you will lose the right to board.
Our facilities may stop operating due to adverse weather conditions. If the cable car cannot operate on the day of your visit, we will send you a notification by e-mail and/or text at approx. 8.30am. Please bear in mind, however, that if you have booked your Teide Cable Car tickets for an early-morning session, it's likely that you're already on your way when you receive our notification. In this event, and provided that the Cable Car Visitors’ Centre is open, remember that you can still visit the “Science and Legend” exhibition included with your ticket, and enjoy our shop and restaurant.
The audio guides are available in the following languages, and in both physical and digital formats: English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Polish and Dutch.
Download the audio guide app to your Android or iOS device. You just need to use the booking code from your cable car + audio guide ticket to quickly and easily download the app and enjoy a contactless experience.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can receive a physical audio guide. In order to pick it up it is necessary to leave your passport/ID card or a deposit of €50.00 which will be returned to you when you return the audio guide. You should pick up your audio guide 30 minutes before your session at the Information Point located outside the building. Audio guides are included free of charge in the package tickets + audio guide for children. Please remember that, if you need to use a physical audio guide, these only have information about the trails at the top station.
You should be prepared for extremes in weather, both heat as well as cold, depending on the time of year in which you use your Tenerife cable car tickets.
Our recommendations:
- Wear warm clothing and proper footwear.
- Protect yourself from sunstroke.
- Due to the elevated luminosity, wear sunglasses.
- Take plenty of water on hikes.
Teide Cable Car is located within a fragile and protected national park. Therefore we must follow a series of basic rules of civic behaviour and respect of the natural environment, such as not littering or taking rocks, plants or animals. Please remember that it is prohibited to make fire, make loud noises, stray from the signposted paths, feed the animals, or to camp.
Up to 3 date changes within a maximum of 1 year are permitted. You can change the time or date, or cancel your ticket free of charge until 6.00pm on the day prior to the reserved date. Once this period has elapsed, or if the reservation is made after 6.00pm on the previous day, changes will not be accepted, and in the event of a cancellation, customers will be charged the full cost of the booking. Check our Terms and conditions for information on other reasons for cancellation.
All changes and cancellations of Cable Car tickets can be made comfortably via our booking management module.
Since the operation of the Cable Car is subject to the changing weather (wind speed, temperature, etc.), on occasions, the estimated boarding time may be delayed. If the closure of the facilities due to adverse weather conditions or technical reasons causes a delay of at least 90 minutes in relation to the booked time, the full refund of the amount may be requested free of charge provided that the tickets have not been used.
The base station
The Teide Cable Car Visitor’s Centre, which is at the cable car base station, is perfectly accessible by road and is located at an altitude of 2,356 m.
Its modern facilities are equipped with two cabins that travel to the top in under 8 minutes and can hold a maximum of 44 passengers, although for the comfort of our customers, we usually do not take more than 35 people on board.
The views from the base station allow you to behold the spectacular peaks surrounding the Teide volcano.
The base station offers facilities specially designed to make your visit enjoyable: the “Science and Legend” exhibition, an official souvenir shop and a restaurant-cafeteria with a wide range of cuisine and panoramic views of the National Park. This is also the perfect place to find out about the different routes and trails you can do from the upper station.
The upper station
The Teide Cable Car upper station is the starting point of three spectacular trails at the summit of Mount Teide, which are directly accessible from a small hall from where you can walk outside. It has Wi-Fi and toilets.
Although there is not a café in the upper station, you will have vending machines at your disposal with drinks and non-perishable food such as snacks.
We recommend that you come prepared for all weather conditions since the upper station is at an altitude of 3,555 m.
Parking
Avoid the car. Choose collective transportation. It is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended. If you finally decide to arrive by car, please do so after 1.00pm.
The Cable Car base station has a car park with 220 spaces. You can check the car park opening and closing times here.
Outside its opening hours, the car park is closed and the entry and exit of vehicles is not allowed.
Shops
The Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre facilities, located at the cable car base station, include an information centre and an official souvenir shop.
Restaurant / Café
At the Visitors’ Centre you will find our café and restaurant facility with spectacular views of the Teide National Park. The restaurant offers a wide range of cuisine, with the emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.
Toilets
There are toilets at both the base station and the upper station, which remain open during the opening hours of the facilities.
In case of discounted Mount Teide Cable Car tickets for children or local residents, a supporting document is required to prove entitlement to discount.
Teide Cable Car Timetable
- Check Teide Cable Car opening times here.
- The stay at the upper station is limited to one hour. Those visitors who have a permit to access the crater can extend this limited time up to 2 hours to complete the activity.
Guided Tour to Pico Viejo schedule
- We offer various guided tours throughout the day. You can choose the time of your guided route when making your booking.
- The meeting point is at the cable car base station, next to the boarding area, at the time indicated on the voucher.

In this article about ascending Mount Teide by car on our blog, you’ll find an interesting guide with the most important points of interest along each route to Mount Teide. However, we recommend not using a car and choosing collective transportation because it is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended. If you ultimately decide to come by car, it’s a good idea to arrive after 1.00pm.
Moreover, if you finally decide to travel independently and would like to access the most comprehensive audio guide to Teide National Park, hear from legendary figures about volcanoes, geology, and the history of Mount Teide on an audio-guided tour to the main viewpoints and points of interest, and have information about the best trails near the Teide Cable Car base and top stations, we recommend choosing the ticket for the ascent and descent + audio guide.
Reviews
We very much enjoyed having the chance to go up the Teide by cable car and admire the stunning views from the upper station.
Thank you
Gave my remarks already
The cable car experience is out of this world BUT ensure you apply for your permit to walk to the summit. This is not clear when booking and without your permit and national ID or passport you are not permitted to walk the rest of the way up.
Very nice experience.
Good
Extraordinary experience, beautiful!
Very good experience, but also very expensive experience!
Everything was great! Incredible views!
Super
A must do activity when visiting Tenerife, always very busy but so well organised
the trip to teide was great. the only thing we didn't understand is the forced photo shoot and then the photo is printed as a souvenir even if we don't want it
Everything was very good.
It was a wonderful experience. We had a peak permit but when arriving at the top cable car station I suddenly became dizzy. I put this down to my Long Covid which has affected my breathing for 4 years now and no doubt the lower Oxygen levels caused this problem. I didn't want to risk going the hard route to the summit only to have problems. We walked along the path towards the Pico Viecho instead which was enjoyable. I am a relatively fit person but the air and altitude really hit me this time. I have a lot of mountain altitude experience from my past but was disappointed I couldn't make the summit on this occasion. I doubt that I will have another opportunity as we will probably not return to Tenerife again. However, I cannot recommend this adventure enough and it is an essential part of any holiday on Tenerife. Apart from my health, the whole experience was superb from the car park guides, the cafe and the staff at both ends of the cable car ride.
Well organised.
Yes, awesome experience.
One way trip was fine, walking back was hard, we could use some info or a better path to lead us back to the original parking instead of other parking place and having to walk 2.5km more back to get to the car. We almost missed dinner because of this.
Wonderful day! Kind and helpful staff.
The trip to Teide volcano is an one in a life time experience that you don t want to miss when you come to Tenerife.
it was extremely exciting, service, safety at the highest level👌🏻
No remarks
The ride up and at the top and ride down was good. Loved it except for being in the tram with 43 other people. It was like sardines in a can.
Perfect trip
Jjhh
Cable car was excelent.
Labai patiko, gamta pasidarbavo puikiai, ir Jusu organizavimas puikus, labai aciu.
An amazing experience
Absolutely satisfied 🙂
Great experience, stunning views. Very well organised.
friendly staff
Boring tour.
Awesome!
Great experience
Very nice experience, easy booking, all the information available.
We wholeheartedly recommend this tour! Our guide *** was knowledgeable and showed us so many wonderful places!
Oo
Was cool
The hike was beautiful, but the young woman checking the permits at the gate for the final ascent was extremely unfriendly and rude, as was the guide who extremely brutally yelled at another tourist at the summit for stepping two meters down to pick up a hair clip that she had dropped accidentally. These two people should in my view be severely reprimanded and relocated to different jobs where they do not interact with people.
Everything was perfect
I bought the tickets only for the return cabin and I was very disappointed and angry when only after the payment you communicate the last cabin run at 13.50 pm. Nowhere is written the hours and nobody know that. Very bad thing in a beautiful day. I'm really sorry of that inconvenience. I payed 44 euros...not nuts.
Same as the ascend,no issues, everything smooth and we'll organized
Shocking that you cannot buy a bottle of water at 4:50PM , even though they promised on Google that restaurant will be open until 6:30PM.
No complaints, the cable car came quick enough.
Worth seeing
It was interesting and the views were amazing.
Skip queue as tours have starting hour and they get priority on boarding.
It was great day out full of experiences and memory making with close friends.
Great
Amazing
Amazing experience and lovely guides that escorted us!
The guide was professional and he explained us very clearly about the history of that place
Very good
We booked a guided tour, but were thoroughly disappointed with our overall experience. Despite arriving early and joining what we thought was the correct queue, the lady in charge was extremely rude and disorganized. When I approached her to confirm if we were in the right place, she abruptly demanded I step back. As I complied, she rudely closed the cordon line in front of me and walked away. I had to shout to get her attention to explain that my family was already in the queue. She then insisted on seeing our tickets, accusing us of sneaking in, which we hadn't. She took my phone to check the tickets and even put it in her pocket, forcing me to follow her to retrieve it. While we were waiting, the instructions were given exclusively in Spanish, leaving us and other English-speaking families confused. When someone expressed this, the staff member rudely snapped, "Okay, I will get to you," and then barely translated anything into English. The cable car, advertised as a comfortable way to reach the volcano, was packed beyond capacity, leaving no room to move. Additionally, we were not informed anywhere in the documentation or at the station that closed footwear was required. Consequently, my partner, wearing rugged hiking sandals, was told she couldn't participate in the tour upon reaching the top. This lack of communication is unacceptable, and we will be requesting a refund for one person's guided tour. The tour guide, though pleasant, conducted 75% of the tour in Spanish and only gave brief summaries in English. While the volcano itself was amazing, our experience with the staff and the tour organization was terrible!
Awesome place to visít and great service
I didn’t realise Pico Viejo is accessible to all and a guided tour is not necessary. High altitude and rocky walking trails are not suitable for a lot of people.
Tour was great, *** was excellent.
Guided tour was our best choice for Teide! Tour was long enough
The cable car was good but the tour was disappointing as you didn’t go all the way to pico viejo but just to look out point. This should be explained! There was no need for the extra money on the guide …
It is unclear how to find your tour group so don’t bother paying extra for it.
nice view, nice people
Amazing view
All was great
I have only one reserve on the visit: 1 hour permanence on the top of the Teide is too short. To follow the two small path the leads to nice view points takes about 2 hours.
was amazing
All good, but two remarks: - I wasn’t able to find an address for the sat nav, it worked via Google search finally - we wanted to go to the top, but there was no spot for months when following the link to register. Other than the above all was good, booked went well, waiting time is short no complaints:-a
Great day apart from the calima
Cable car was easy to access and quick but the experience at the top was seriously underwhelming. To have to pay more for a permit to reach the top is just madness and a money making exercise. Very disappointed.
Great day out lovely guide and driver
no remarks
Very happy all round
The queue for cable cares as a little scatty
Perfect.
Everything was perfect.
One of the best trip
10/10
Fantastic tour!!! Amazing
We bought two tickets for the volcano sunset tour, which we wanted to return, which according to the website, is possible until 6 pm the day before. We were three minutes late due to a bad internet connection, but the system allowed and accepted the redemption, however, citing the expired deadline, they do not want to refund the money. In the end, we bought two new tickets for this program, which started at 18:10 instead of the announced 17:30 departure, and instead of the promised two hours, it was just over an hour, including the lift time.
Poor & disappointing. Not good value for money.
Would have been better if we could have gone to the end of the trail for the sunset
The guide was amazing. The top of the volcano itself is incredibly beautiful
nice view (+) tour shorter than anounced (-)
It was amazing and unbelievable
Very nice experience
We loved the sunset but for us its not a real tour and for just the cablecar tickets €*** is a little too expensive. Plus the group was too big for our taste. Other than that we enjoyed the views.
Breathtaking views! One of the loveliest sunsets I've been lucky to witness. Our guide, *** (for French & German), was very friendly and funny. I'd definitely recommend catching either the sunset or the sunrise from there. It's quite windy and it gets cold pretty quickly, so bring a jumper and a jacket and even gloves, if you intend to take a lot of pictures (you will). My only problem with the location is that the toilets are closed by the time the people with sunset tickets arrive and by the time they open again, too many people are waiting in line and there's not much time left until the tour starts. If you didn't book the star gazing tour, there are quite a few parking spots around that are still dark enough so you can park your car and do your own stargazing, albeit without tue equipment.
We did the sunset tour. An absolutely brilliant experience led by the wonderfully knowledgable ***. I can highly recommend this, we will definitely do this again.
Meeting time was 17:15, start was a hour letter. It like to long 😒
It is definetely worth it to go there and see vulcano view
One of the best experiences of sunset I ever had :) highly recommend
The whole process from initial booking to being picked up on the day was effortless, our guide Jose was a fountain of knowledge with some lighthearted humour thrown in. The same goes for our driver Carlos really couldn’t fault him the entire time a true gentleman. The total experience was beyond my wildest expectations.
The same as in answear before
Brilliant trip, very well organised and the guide and driver were exceptional! The whole trip was amazing and anyone visiting Tenerife should go and see Teide with Volcano Teide - brilliant organisation and knowledge. Plus Harry our guide was funny with it too so made for a perfect trip!
Super
Very good tour, guide was fantastic! Freedom to explore at the top of mt Teide!
Really nice trip!
It’s “must See “ on a Tenerife
A good trip well worth doing, very informative guide and Mount Teide was fascinating. Would highly recommend this trip.
Really enjoyed this trip, our guide was informative and friendly, and my family (2 adults, 2 children aged 3 and 6) had a great day visiting Mt Teide.
A good trip. The time at the upper station is limited to one hour, which was not enough for us, but I realise that this is governed by the National Park/cable car operator.
Great guide and driver, comfortable bus Beautiful location Shame we couldn’t stay at each stop longer, felt a little rushed and was slightly shorter than advertised, otherwise amazing
Excellent tour
Even though we are experienced walkers we were both hit by the effect of lower oxygen levels at 3500+ metres. Care is needed
Excellent
A very good experience overall! The bus ride was efficient and relaxed and the stops were appropriate and well-timed. We would have appreciated a bit more time at the Roqas des Garcia, 20 minutes wasn’t quite enough to take it all in! Very much enjoyed the cable car experience, even with a 5 year old (though we should have packed a few more warm clothes for him). A memorable and well-executed operation - thank you!
A fabulous unmissable coach trip to one of the most magical locations in Spain on Tenerife, Mount Teide.
Nope
Overall good experience guides helpful
The guide gave use complete and interesting comments about what we were seeing. The views were magnificent, especially from the paths around the top station of the cable car, and the fact that we had a different route going down (on the bus) than going up added to the overall sightseeing experience.
Extraordinary experience
Not enough time given at locations for photos, personal needs and refreshments.
We loved the trip and the view and immensity of Mount Tiede was breathtaking. You find out lots about the history of the volcano and the surrounding areas. There is a lovely cafe, museum and public toilets at the bottom of the cable car ride. I really liked the little museum as it tells the story of the myth and thre science of the volcano.
Recommend tour
Excellent tour.
Pick up on time
Very easy to find a pick up point.
The experience was amazing now looking back at it. On the day, it would have been better if we would have been briefed about the cable car journey and told in advanced we needed proper winter clothes when up at the cable car station. The guide was ok but it was difficult to follow as there was random sentences in so many languages and it was difficult to follow the storyline if there was one.
We didn't have enough time to walk and rest. We only had one hour and 40 minutes on Teide with waiting in line and taking the cable car up and 30 min. in the Rocks. Everything was in a hurry, we had to look at the watches all the time so as not to be late. At 14 o'clock we were at home.It would be cheaper and faster to take a public bus
Very Good Experience Overall...The only thing I could say is we could have been given more time, at least 2 hours at the top of mountain to cover, at least two trails and time for coffee at the base station. We missed on one of the trails as we had to rush back. Also there was no stop for lunch break? Also it says 7 hours but we were back at the hotel much before that? I thought it was full day Tour.
Description
Go up Mount Teide by Cable Car
Enjoy the quickest way to go up Mount Teide.
When you get off the cable car, you will be at an altitude of 3,555 m, and will have various choices on how to take in the stunning views of the largest national park in the Canary Islands.
Choose the viewpoint of La Rambleta to behold the views of the Siete Cañadas and the Ucanca Valley. From here, you can just imagine the enormous size of the old volcano that stood atop the island 150,000 years ago, and which was known as the Cañadas edifice, at a time when Mount Teide did not yet exist. In front of you stretches the Las Cañadas cirque, which has its highest point on Montaña Guajara. These are the remains of a great volcano whose own weight caused it to slide towards the northern coast in no more than a few minutes.
Its remains, millions of tons of volcanic rock, lie scattered over hundreds of kilometres in the depths of the ocean. In the huge tunnel left by the collapse of the volcano, new eruptions began immediately, and began to fill it. One of these eruptions was the origin of Mount Teide.
Over a long period of time, eruption followed eruption, forming the huge volcano from which you are now looking out at the surrounding landscape.
If you prefer to gaze at spectacular views of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma with an impressive crater at your feet, (which once upon a time was a lake of lava), choose the path to the Pico Viejo Viewpoint, another colossal volcano over 3,000 m high, the second highest peak in the archipelago, crowned by a crater 800 m in diameter. Pico Viejo forms part of the same volcanic edifice as Mount Teide, and at its base lie the Narices del Teide [literally: the nostrils of Mount Teide], the two mouths of historic eruptions, including the last one recorded within the bounds of the National Park.
You can take this tour of great scenic and volcanic interest with a guide, by booking the guided tour to the Pico Viejo viewpoint with a cable car ticket included.
Choose the La Fortaleza trail if you’d like to enjoy fantastic views of northern Tenerife: the outstanding valley of La Orotava, with Puerto de la Cruz on the ocean shore, although for most of the year, the valley is shrouded in clouds borne by the trade winds from the north east. As they collide with the island’s northern slopes, these winds rise up, and the moisture carried along by them condenses, until it forms a spectacular sea of cloud, which is vital to sustain Tenerife’s forests. You may also like to take this trail if you want to make your descent via Montaña Blanca.
And if you are one of those people who won’t leave Tenerife without having reached the summit of Mt. Teide, choose the Telesforo Bravo trail to the peak of Teide and shout ‘I am the King of the world’ from an altitude of 3 718 m.
But remember that for the trail that leads to the crater, you will need a special free permit, issued by administration of the Teide National Park, which you must apply for months in advance. Would you like a guide for this option? Read all the information on our ascent to the peak with a cable car ticket.

Guarantee your seat by purchasing your Mount Teide Cable Car tickets online. You will enjoy tickets with an assigned session. It is as simple as booking a time slot for a specific date. You must show up at the Cable Car boarding area with your Online Ticket, either printed or displayed on your mobile phone, 20 minutes prior to the time specified on your Mount Teide Cable Car ticket in order to redeem it and access the boarding area to board the cabin afterwards.
If you arrive by private vehicle, which you will need to park, we recommend that you show up at the premises of the Cable Car prior to the time indicated on your Mount Teide Cable Car tickets, although we recommend that you avoid driving and choose collective transportation instead because it is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. In addition, this represents your personal commitment to reduce greenhouse gases and to the conservation of the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended.
Which is why we offer you our tour to Mount Teide with cable car tickets included. If you finally arrive by car, it is best that you book your Mount Teide Cable Car tickets for a time slot after 1.00pm.
If for whatever reason you arrive too late for your session, you will lose the right to board.

Tickets + ‘Teide Legend’ digital audio guide to Teide National Park or physical audio guide to the trails
The perfect option if you’re travelling to Teide with your own vehicle and you prefer to discover the landscape and find out about it under your own steam with the help of our Teide Legend audio guide (available in English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Polish and Dutch for download on Android and iOS devices).
The audio guide included in this ticket is actually a full audio-guided tour of Teide National Park.
The Teide Legend audio guide included with your cable car + audio guide ticket is an audio-guided tour to Mount Teide. It reveals the natural and cultural heritage of Tenerife and different points of interest in Teide National Park, depending on the access road you take to reach our facilities.
This audio-guided tour shows you the best viewpoints and hiking trails near the cable car base and top stations, plus restaurants, local shops, cultural centres, etc.
Characters from the “Legend of Guayota” will be your guides on this tour, and you’ll learn about the volcanology, anthropology, and history of the National Park, while you’ll be also introduced to the indigenous Guanches, Tenerife’s earliest inhabitants who worshipped the Teide volcano, and who believed its eruptions to be the expressions of the fury of the gods.
The section on trails at the top station offers detailed and essential information about the three emblematic trails that leave from Teide Cable Car top station and follow different routes across the volcano’s slopes. You can hike the trails at the same time as you learn about the most important and characteristic parts of the volcano.
The audio guide is fun and easy to use! You just need to use the booking code from your cable car + audio guide ticket to quickly and easily download the app and enjoy a complete contactless experience.
Want to know how the audio guide app works? We explain in this video. Follow the instructions to get the most from your visit to Mount Teide.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can receive a physical audio guide. In order to pick it up it is necessary to leave your passport/ID card or a deposit of €50.00 which will be returned to you when you return the audio guide. It’s important to remember that, by choosing this option, you’ll only have the audio guide to the trails at the top station.
Live the Teide Legend at the Teide “Science and Legend” exhibition!
The cable car ticket (except for the ticket for the ascent and the Cable Car at Sunset activity) includes free admission to the “Science and Legend” exhibition, which you will find at the Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre.
You will learn about Mount Teide’s last major eruption (around 1,000 years ago) which the indigenous Guanches probably interpreted as a fight between mythological deities—an explanation far removed from that which science now attributes to volcanic eruptions.
The characters of the legend of Guayota, both gods and humans, will show you their vision of the stages of the eruption that took place back then, and which formed the pylon at the summit of Mount Teide, known locally as “el tapón del Teide” [the Teide cap]. A magical story in which good and evil join in an epic battle. Along with the legend, you will be shown reliable data to illustrate the scientific interpretation of the eruption. Although the two perspectives may seem diametrically opposed, they are in fact closely connected.
In addition, you can have a great time at our Visitors’ Centre, where you can find brilliant mementoes of your visit to the legend of the Teide National Park at our official souvenir shop. And you can relax and enjoy a culinary experience with panoramic views of the National Park in Spain’s highest restaurant and snack bar, whose badge of identity is the distinctly Canary Island character of its food and drink.
If you book the cable car + audio guide ticket, the Teide Legend app is included with your purchase, and it features detailed audio recordings so you can enjoy the exhibition in any of the audio guide’s 8 languages.
