Mount Teide by night excursion: astronomical observation on a full moon night
As you already know, the moon passes through different phases during its 29-day cycle, that is to say, lunation. Therefore, at least once a month, its potent glow will dim the faint light of the distant stars. If you take your Sunset and Stars - Mount Teide by Night Tour on the night of the full moon, you will take advantage of its radiant appearance and be delighted with its splendour: mountain ranges, craters and other lunar wonders.
If you haven’t known that you can find the Montes Teneriffe, Mons Pico and the crater Piazzi Smyth on the Moon, ask our guides where they are located and why they have these names.

Reviews
full moon wwas a litle bit disapointing
Disappointing.
Stunning view from top of Teide. Well worth a visit. The english/german guide was a bit rufe and too wordy and telling negative stories about previous visitors. The watching stars session was fascinating but way too cold since no warm jackets or blankets provided by the organisers, wich the adverts said they would.
Great.
A great way to enjoy a spectacular sunset from above the clouds and learn all the simple but still little-known facts about stars and the Universe. I highly appreciated the stargazing excursion and a chance to see some of the beautiful constellations through the telescope!
We hired a car and drove up along the TF 38 and stopped at every possible point on the way and the drive was easier than we expected - but you can arrange a coach with the company. The event itself was a brilliant evening. The walk to watch the sunset was pretty easy and worth every second. The sunset was amazing - awesome. - 2 top tips, if you haven't ordered food with your ticket make sure you are there early enough to buy some food from the café at the cable car before you start the 'sunset' walk or bring some food with you. Also, make sure you wrap up warm, we took coats but some folks were really cold. The 'Stars' bit of the tour was also mind blowing stuff and the guides were so very knowledgeable and funny - which added to the evening. We would recommend this event to anyone - stick it on your bucket list and go - you will not be disappointed!
Awesome activities. Teide is a very unique spot and it was a great pleasure to discover it. The sunset was beautiful and night sky as well.
Amazing guides and activity
Briljant sunset and stargazing was amazing!!!
On the booking it said; 8h of activity which we made only 4h at the end. By far, it was beautiful the views. I've been with my partner and we both fell in love. The staff was so kind and they were so happy to explain us everything! I would totally recommend!! ***
Genuinely recommend the sunset/astronomy package. We had 3 children with us, aged 9 to 14, and they all loved the ride to the top and the walk to the sunset viewing point (do wrap up well for that!) The guide was knowledgeable and informative - getting the balance between education and letting us enjoy the spectacular scenery exactly right. The astronomy lecture was amazing - his enthusiasm kept my 9 year old entranced despite her being tired, cold and not as into stargazing as her sisters. 5 out of 5 - if I could give it more I would
Great tour - with knowledgeable guides for both elements.
The nature was 5star. What disappointed us was how it was run. Far too many people especially in the English speaking groups. We had to hang around for an hr after the time given ,(to wait for all the other groups to go up first.) Its also not clear that you have to book in around the side of the building to get your band and if you have a teen under 14 make sure u at least have a photo of their passport or they will make u buy an adult price for them. Squashed in the cable car so difficult to move and therefore only got fleeting glimpses of the gorgeous sunset view on the downward journey. The guides sadly added very little to the experience. Re sunset tour The guide had a strong accent so was difficult to understand and was a bit boring in his hunour. The star gazing again amazing to see but again the guides sadly added very little. It was somewhat chatoic due to the numbers. We had the same guide who kept switching to German despite it being the “ English speaking group” the other guide spoke so fast he was also tricky to understand and both tended to repeat what the other person said . They need to communicate with each other. The amount of time you have with the telescope was seconds due to the numbers and wasnt worth the queing up for. My advice , go on the sunset tour as thats the only way you are able to be up there at that time . Then wait in your car for an hour and look up and see the stars your self . Or even better use an app to help point out what you are seeing .
The sunset was amazing. Go for that. But... The star gazing felt disorganised and with far too many people for it to be enjoyable. You were in a car park (disappointing) with three large portable telescopes looking up at the sky as three guides, each with a group of about 25 peope, each used laser beams to point out features in the skies. They were nice people, but after you’ve been craning your neck for 20 minutes as they move about the sky rapidly and try and explain in their second language to strangers how this constellation looks like a horse, it gets tedious and painful. The lines for the telescopes were so long that after nearly an hour we still hadn’t had a look in one, and so we left early...but they had locked the car parking gate with no explanation of how to get out. Three cars drove up to the exit and eventually we climbed under the gate and found an intercom system that let us out. I rarely write a negative review, but I would have wanted to know this information before I booked.
*****
We enjoyed our trip. The sunset and viewing point were good. We knew it was just after a full moon so were not expecting great star views. The planetarium option was well done and interesting. The guides were knowledgeable and interesting. We came prepared with warm clothes and walking boots.
Great learning experience
It was a very nice and well organized trip. The guides were friendly and explained everything very, very well.
Absolutely amazing experience, we booked for the sunset and stars as a birthday treat whilst on holiday for birthday. The organisation of your trip was fantastic. The Bus arrived at pick up point on time, tour guide came to introduce herself, (I think called Shona/Rhona) was very polite and friendly, drive up was fantastic and the trip up tiede was amazing, we were put into separate groups with our language, we were English. we were well looked after from start to finish. Stargazing was also as amazing as the sunset. 100% recommended an absolute unforgettable and very special experience.
Dadurch, dass ich es als etwas eilig empfunden habe, fand ich es etwas zu teuer.

Very good service
Wonderful Just wonderful.
Guide was knowledgeable and helpful. Star gazing was awesome. Only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is there was a good hours wait between descending on the cable car until the star gazing commenced......
Sunset portion on Teide was excellent. The stargazing with the naked eye was great, the view of the night sky without light pollution was awesome. The views through telescopes were a little underwhelming and it felt like a long wait hanging around between the two parts of the tour. All in all though a good experience.
Worth doing.
Puntuales en la recogida. Buena explicación y organización de la excursión.
We heard about tours from Food & Travel magazine. Organisation prior to trip was unsatisfactory as we were told only the day before that due to ‘organisational difficulties’ we could not be collected from our hotel despite booking several months before. We were offered several less good options and a refund as the meal was no longer possible. Our correspondent by email also got very confused. However, the trip itself was excellent. Victor our guide was excellent (his name does not appear on the other feedback!)
Great experience.
We did not receive an email or sms text message confirming our pick up point and time as promised in the booking information. We had to phone the office in Tenerife the day before the trip to find out. The transfer up Mount Teide went smoothly, as did the cable car trip to the top but it was a rush to get to the viewing point for the sunset. The star gazing was good and we were impressed to be able to see the planet Saturn. But our group was very big and we had to queue for a while to look through each telescope. The star gazing guide was wonderful but he spoke very fast and it was hard to keep up with his explanations. Our suggestions to make the trip even better - 1. Put a big sign on the transfer bus indicating the trip it is doing (we waited outside a hotel where a lot of people were getting transfers to the airport and all the buses were confusing). 2. Insist that people bring extra layers of clothing - they can be left on the bus if they are not needed, we didn't realise just how much the temperature would drop as we went up the mountain - 27 degrees F by the hotel pool, 5 degrees F at the cable car. 3. Some sort of low level discrete lighting on the floor around the telescopes, to prevent people bumping into them or each other.
My wife and I were really disappointed with this €80 tour. We were picked up in Costa Adeje and the journey to Mount Teide was good. On arrival we were split into language groups and boarded the cable car accordingly, the English speakers were last. On arrival at the top we made our way to the vantage point to watch the sunset, by the time we got there the sun had all but disappeared. We've viewed better sunsets from the balcony at our hotel. We then returned to the base station for the star gazing, there were approximately 30 people, in the dark, queuing up to view the stars through 4 telescopes, we didn't find this enjoyable. Later one of the staff tried to explain the solar system with the aid of a laser pointer. He was obviously very knowledgeable but too fast for us to take the information in. His talk was spoiled for us by an annoying girl who giggled constantly as he talked, when I complained, his suggestion was that I move away from her, I didn't take kindly to that suggestion. The view of the stars was wonderful but spoiled by being in too large a group. The journey back was good. I do not recommend this tour.
Well organised trip from start to finish. Interesting information re the history of the volcano and the Naitional Park. Great guides provided a wealth of information and advice. Stargazing was brilliant and suited all knowledge levels in group. Would highly recommend the trip.
We had a very nice experience. The guides were very helpful and friendly. We went on El Teide around sundown. It was nice but we didn't have much time on El Teide which was a bit disappointing. You had to be quick if you wanted pictures, we walked to the second viewing point and once we got there and took a picture, we needed to go back to the cable cars. We expected to see the other islands but there were a lot of clouds (I know the guides can't change the weather haha ;) It was just a bit disappointing but the views over the national park were also very pretty.) Then we went down to eat and after that we went stargazing. The groups were around 15 people, I guess, so you have enough time to look through all telescopes. It was very nice and the guide learned us a lot about the stars etc. I would definitely do this again and I really recommend this! Take some warm clothes with you because it's very cold. When we went it was around 0°C. Don't underestimate it. ;)
Highly recommended!! Wonderful experience!!
Good value for money for a great excursion.
