You don’t need a car to visit Mount Teide by night. This Sunset and Stars Teide Tour with astronomical observation includes transport with en-route stops on your way to the Teide Cable Car in order to ascend comfortably to 3,555 m and enjoy both the spectacle of Teide’s shadow cast towards the horizon over the island of Gran Canaria, as well as Spain’s highest sunset from the trail to the Pico Viejo viewpoint, with this volcano’s impressive 800-m-diameter crater at your feet and views over some of the neighbouring islands, such as La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma, if the weather permits.
On this Sunset and Stars - Mount Teide by Night excursion you won’t stop sharing on your social networks the photographs of what would probably be one of the best sunsets you have ever seen!
With the assistance of our guides, you will discover all of the volcanic wonders that surround the impressive trail to the Pico Viejo viewpoint. The trail and the surrounding scenery acquire a truly remarkable array of colours at sunset, which are unforgettable to visitors. Because sunset is when you can best read the open book of the geological history of this volcanic island, formed by very many volcanic episodes over time. That explains why Mount Teide is a stratovolcano, which was built up by various eruptions over hundreds of thousands of years.
The evening light brings out the shapes, textures and colours of the black rivers of lava that flowed down from the crater, so that you can better appreciate the accretionary lava balls and the high-walled lava channels. The trail begins on La Corbata, a whitish rock formation, and continues westwards with the amphitheatre of the Las Cañadas cirque a constant backdrop to this astounding landscape. At the end lies the remarkable crater of Pico Viejo, another immense volcano that crowns the Abeque ridge, a barren ‘malpaís’ strewn with recent lava fields and volcanic cones, many of them historic; the most notable of these is the Chinyero volcano, the site of Tenerife’s most recent eruption in 1907. In the distance rises the Teno massif, which is much older than either Las Cañadas or Mount Teide, and out on the ocean, the islands of La Palma and La Gomera can be seen, with El Hierro further back on the horizon.
After the sunset and just before starting your Mount Teide stargazing experience, you will have some free time to eat. And if you don’t want to bring your own food, remember that you can book the activity with a picnic included. We also have a vegetarian option!
Look up to the sky and enjoy Mount Teide stargazing in one of the best starry skies in the world

But you will be prepared! During the astronomical observation included in this guided Sunset and Stars - Mount Teide by Night Tour, our Starlight guides will unravel for you the mysteries of the sky over Mt Teide, one of the three best skies on the planet, along with Chile and Hawaii, where it is possible to see 83 out of the 88 officially recognised constellations.
Observe this spectacle on Mount Teide stargazing with the unaided eye and using our professional telescopes, learn how to guide yourself thanks to the sky and enjoy discerning the elements of Greek mythology, which are hidden behind the constellations.

Mount Teide by night excursion: astronomical observation on a full moon night
As you already know, the moon passes through different phases during its 29-day cycle, that is to say, lunation. Therefore, at least once a month, its potent glow will dim the faint light of the distant stars. If you take your Sunset and Stars - Mount Teide by Night Tour on the night of the full moon, you will take advantage of its radiant appearance and be delighted with its splendour: mountain ranges, craters and other lunar wonders.
If you haven’t known that you can find the Montes Teneriffe, Mons Pico and the crater Piazzi Smyth on the Moon, ask our guides where they are located and why they have these names.

Reviews
Excellent
5/5 organization, pickup on time. 5/5 sympathic guides. 1/5 teleferico did not go up due to wind. But the sunset up on the Volcano was what i booked and paid for. I had rather had taken a refund. Being informed shortly before arrival at the base station felt like being pulled over the Barrel. The little alternative hike and the photographs from the roadside i could have done myself for a small Fraction of the price. 3/5 the snack. The ham and Cheese Sandwich and the brownie were fully ok. I had however hoped for a typical tenerife-local style snack. 5/5 the telescopes and the explanation of the Star constellations. The guides' enthusiasm could be felt.
Excellent trip, Macarena a great tour guide
We enjoyed our trip. The sunset and viewing point were good. We knew it was just after a full moon so were not expecting great star views. The planetarium option was well done and interesting. The guides were knowledgeable and interesting. We came prepared with warm clothes and walking boots.
Great learning experience
It was a very nice and well organized trip. The guides were friendly and explained everything very, very well.
Absolutely amazing experience, we booked for the sunset and stars as a birthday treat whilst on holiday for birthday. The organisation of your trip was fantastic. The Bus arrived at pick up point on time, tour guide came to introduce herself, (I think called Shona/Rhona) was very polite and friendly, drive up was fantastic and the trip up tiede was amazing, we were put into separate groups with our language, we were English. we were well looked after from start to finish. Stargazing was also as amazing as the sunset. 100% recommended an absolute unforgettable and very special experience.
Dadurch, dass ich es als etwas eilig empfunden habe, fand ich es etwas zu teuer.
*****
Too rushed, little English commentary, Offered partial refund rather than use the half of the sky we could see. No effort to appease just ushered to coach to get us back. Was really looking forward to this trip and it was spoiled by lack of TLC. If you don’t want us there I would sooner you say !!!!!
The trip was very well organised with clear communication beforehand and during the trip. Our guide was friendly and professional. We really enjoyed it and will be recommending the trip to friends!
Stated in the prior comment box
This trip was too long and way too cold to be enjoyable. No hot drinks available to buy to warm Up Unless you had euros with you to use a drink machine you had no way of getting a drink and no food available as cafe closed. Toilets closed half way through the evening and temperature was minus 7. It’s tells you it’s cold and warm Clothes are needed but doesn’t say it’s minus temperatures that you have to stand in for 3 hours. Would be good if you had ski wear on but a warm coat is nowhere near enough. So ski wear and thermals are needed To finish off the coach had air conditioning on the whole hour home. We was so cold we was all ill after for a couple days Really didn’t like this trip As was just too cold coming from 20 degrees all Week and then thrown into minus 7 in a couple of hours.
Cable car broken didn’t get full experience
Veru nice.
See above
As I have explained earlier, it was way too cold, even wearing warm clothes was not enough to bear the freezing low temperatures.
Loved the experience -- really enjoyed both going up the volcano and getting to look at the planets/stars!
Every year I come back to Tenerife. I can say it is my second home! And every year we're traveling through the national park and do some sightseeing. I already have done the sunset tour on the pico el Teide. Really beautiful. This time I booked the sunset and stars with my mother who lives on Tenerife for some several years. For my mom it was the first time she saw the sunset on top of the pico el Teide. For both of us the first time to get to know more about the stars. Our guide was a real expert. He knew a lot about every constalation! In some words we found this tour: beautiful, wonderful and meaningful
The walk was amazing up to the sunset, and really cold!!! At the beach 30 degrees, at the summit 3! So please put on warm clothes (we had some on shorts that froze over) The stars and milkyway are soooo cool! And the telescopes offer unique views so that was also really cool. Perfect way to end my birthday!
Great view and sunset. It was worth freezing a bit :)
Very good service
Wonderful Just wonderful.
Guide was knowledgeable and helpful. Star gazing was awesome. Only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is there was a good hours wait between descending on the cable car until the star gazing commenced......
Sunset portion on Teide was excellent. The stargazing with the naked eye was great, the view of the night sky without light pollution was awesome. The views through telescopes were a little underwhelming and it felt like a long wait hanging around between the two parts of the tour. All in all though a good experience.
Worth doing.
Puntuales en la recogida. Buena explicación y organización de la excursión.
