Visit the Teide National Park with Teide Legend, and discover the legend of Guayota

The TEIDE LEGEND TOUR is a fun, new and educational way to get to know the Teide National Park and the main tourist attractions that you will pass on the access route of your choice from your hotel to the Park. The tour includes general information about the National Park, access routes by car and walking trails on Mount Teide, together with admission to the “Science and Legend” exhibition.

The perfect choice for those who are looking to visit the Teide National Park independently

We offer a comprehensive, audio-guided tour (available for both Android and Apple devices) to take you along the main road access routes to Mount Teide from the north, south, east and west of the island of Tenerife—and you can start enjoying your visit to the National Park from the very moment you step out of your accommodation.

The audio guide included in the tour gives you access to information on the natural and cultural heritage of the island, and on the points of interest you will pass on your chosen route to Mount Teide. Not only that—you will also receive recommendations for restaurants, local businesses, cultural centres, and more. All the information you need to make your excursion an experience you’ll remember for years to come!

Once you arrive at the Teide National Park, you will be fascinated by the informative explanations on volcanology, history and anthropology, as you learn about the Guanches, the island’s earliest inhabitants who worshipped the Teide volcano, and who believed its eruptions to be the expressions of the fury of the gods.

And there’s more! On your audio-guided tour of Teide routes, you will discover the very best viewpoints, where you can enjoy spectacular views, and some of the trails which will lead you around Mount Teide while you learn about the typical flora and fauna of this protected natural setting.

You could, for example, try the “Roques de García, at the feet of ancient giants” hiking trail (rated as easy) leads from the La Ruleta Viewpoint to another viewing point at the foot of Mount Teide. Or you could choose the “Majúa Mountain, the power of a small volcano” trail (low difficulty), which circles the Majúa volcanic cone, famous for its pale colour.

And the best part is that none of the options we suggest requires a cable car ascent, so it doesn’t even matter if the cable car is not operational on the day of your visit!

The final destination of the audio guide routes is the “Science and Legend” exhibition, which is included in your tour ticket. The exhibition juxtaposes the mythological vision of the eruption that formed the peak at the summit of Mount Teide, through the legend of Guayota, the demon of the volcano, with the scientific interpretation of the different phases of that eruption that so terrified the Guanches.

The exhibition is housed in the Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre, where you will also find our official souvenir shop as well as Spain’s highest restaurant and snack bar.

Moreover, we have great news for visitors who book the TEIDE LEGEND TOUR! When you purchase a single audio-guided Teide routes tour, all the members of your group can access the “Science and Legend” exhibition with you, free of charge.

One of the most interesting and fun stops in the Teide National Park: the Cable Car Visitors’ Centre

Discover the legend of Mount Teide at the Teide “Science and Legend” exhibition

Gods and humans feature in the Legend of Guayota, which centres on the eruption of Mount Teide around 1,000 years ago.

The indigenous inhabitants of Tenerife at that time, the Guanches, witnessed the “awakening of the volcano” in the form of a powerful explosion. Magma spewed from the bowels of “Echeyde”, and the Guanches’ explanation of this terrifying event was that the gods they worshipped were fighting a duel deep inside the mountain. Today, thanks to science, we know what actually happened inside Mount Teide during that traumatic event.

At the “Science and Legend” exhibition, which you will find at the Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre, you will be presented with two views of the eruption: the mythological version and the scientific interpretation—both will surprise you! Admission is included in your Teide Legend Tour ticket.
